Nếu các dạng đề IELTS Writing task 1 là thử thách cho các sĩ tử vì tính chất học thuật, thì Writing task 2 lại khó hơn cả bởi nó còn thêm tiêu chí là đo lường những kiến thức về đời sống, xã hội của thí sinh. 1. Bạn biết gì về bài thi IELTS Writing task 2?

  • IELTS Writing task 2 chiếm 2/3 tổng số điểm cho phần thi Writing.
  • Bài viết có độ dài khoảng 250 từ 
  • Được gợi ý hoàn thành trong khoảng thời gian 40 phút.
  • Cần sử dụng một phong cách viết học thuật và từ vựng đa dạng để trình bày quan điểm của mình.
  • Đề bài đa dạng và liên quan đến các chủ đề về đời sống xã hội: như y tế, giáo dục, môi trường, và dịch bệnh…

2. Advantages and Disadvantages Essay

Dạng bài này sẽ đưa ra một vấn đề, sau đó yêu cầu người viết đưa ra các ưu điểm và nhược điểm của chủ đề đó.

2.1. Dấu hiệu nhận biết:

  • What are the advantages and disadvantages?
  • Discuss the advantages and disadvantages
  • Do you think the advantages outweigh the disadvantages?
  • Discuss the advantages and disadvantages and give your own opinion

2.2. Cấu trúc dạng bài:

Mở bài (Introduction)

1 đoạn

– Paraphrase đề bài

– Giới thiệu ý rằng chủ đề được thảo luận trong bài viết có cả những ưu điểm và nhược điểm, và nếu cần, so sánh chúng để làm rõ hơn.

Thân bài (Body Paragraphs)

~ 2 – 3 đoạn

– Paraphrase hai mặt của luận điểm và trình bày nó ở phần này.

– Phát triển ý liên quan đến mặt này của chủ đề.

Kết luận (Conclusion)

1 đoạn

– Tóm tắt lại câu trả lời, diễn giải lại luận điểm.

– Đưa ra một đề xuất cuối cùng để tổng kết lại ý kiến của bạn.

3. Chữa đề mẫu (Chủ đề: Communication):

Ví dụ đề bài:

– Agree: While it is true that there are certain setbacks in employing online communication platforms at businesses, the benefits of this form of communication are so immense that they surpass the drawbacks.

– Paragraph 1: Disadvantages of online communication for businesses

  • Companies may be under the threat of having confidential documents hacked/invaded/stolen by hackers.
  • The effectiveness of communication rests heavily on internet access/connection and entails computer  literacy.

– Paragraph 2: Advantages of online communication for businesses

  • Great availability and accessibility, breaking physical and geographical boundaries­ => time-saving and cost-effective means of communication .
  • Conversations and discussions can be documented in the archives for future review/reference. Enhance  communication quality as a message can be prepared beforehand instead of being sent simultaneously.

– Highlight vocabulary:

  • Setback (n): trở ngại
  • Employ (v): sử dụng
  • Immense (adj): to lớn
  • Surpass (v): vượt qua
  • Confidential (adj): kín, bí mật
  • Rest on/upon sth: dựa vào cái gì
  • Entail (v): đòi hỏi
  • Boundary (n): biên giới, ranh giới
  • Review (n): sự xem xét lại

4.4. Bộ từ vựng ăn điểm dạng bài advantage and disadvantage

ADVANTAGE

  • Benefit:

E.G: The use of renewable energy sources has numerous benefits, such as reducing carbon emissions and lowering energy costs.

  • Merit:

E.G: The proposal has many merits, including its innovative approach and potential for long-term sustainability.

  • Positive aspect:

E.G: In the context of urban development, a positive aspect of green spaces is improving the quality of life for residents.

  • Strength:

E.G: The candidate’s main strength lies in their excellent communication skills and ability to work in a team.

  • Pro:

E.G: One pro of using social media platforms for marketing is the ability to reach a large audience at a relatively low cost.

 

DISADVANTAGE

  • Drawback:

E.G: One of the drawbacks of working for a big company is that you have to follow a lot of rules.

  • Shortcoming:

E.G: One of the shortcomings of the education system is the lack of emphasis on practical skills and real-world applications.

  • Downside:

E.G: The downside of globalization is the potential loss of cultural diversity and local traditions.

  • Negative aspect:

E.G: One negative aspect of technology is the deterioration of face-to-face communication skills due to excessive screen time.

  • Con:

E.G: The con of stricter gun control laws is the potential infringement of the rights of law-abiding citizens.
